Exciting news this week we have our first official images of the LEGO® UCS Porg!
With the announcement of all the new sets currently being released, LEGO® managed to keep this one close to its chest.
We have known the UCS Porg would be released sometime this year for a while now, but finally, we have our first official images. Now I’m not one of these people that hates Porg’s. I understand why Disney created this character as they wanted to appeal to a younger audience and create merchandise for that audience, and I believe they have done that well.
Originally released via a Ukrainian LEGO® shop, we have no official release date yet, but one would assume it will be this side of Christmas, as I don’t really see the point in waiting as ‘The Last Jedi‘ was released last year.
So the UCS Porg follows the same design as the large form BB-8 droid that was released last year. It comes with a UCS fact plate which features information about the character such as, home planet, habitat, attributes, diet, and colour varieties. The set also comes with a miniature version of the character itself.
The set will consist of 811 pieces, with the set number being 75230. It is rumoured to retail around £70 on its release, which is roughly the same as the BB-8 when it was first released. This seems about right for an 811 piece set.
As for the design, I’m not going to lie it looks a bit weird. They have captured the look of the Porg, but maybe some things just aren’t meant to be made into LEGO®. I definitely prefer the build with its mouth open, which apparently happens when you flap the wings.
Overall, I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it either. I think if you have the BB-8 this will accompany it well, and this will be a favourite with children
