Star Wars™: The Last Jedi abuse blamed on Russian trolls and ‘political agendas’
I was really intrigued with this article when I first spotted the heading which is why I’ve given it a mention in this blog. The prospect of cyber espionage in today’s world is a very current topic but I never thought it would be linked to a Star Wars™ film.
The story centres around the research by the University of Southern California on the negative/hostile comments made on social media about Star Wars™: The Last Jedi film. The research results concluded that “more than 50% of posts are by “bots, trolls/sockpuppets or political activists using the debate to propagate political messages supporting extreme rightwing causes and the discrimination of gender, race or sexuality. A number of these users appear to be Russian trolls.”
Personally, I really enjoyed The Last Jedi.
Every Star Wars™ film has some good and some ‘not so good’ elements to them. Most opinions tend to be based on personal preference: We have all experienced Star Wars™ on different levels and during different stages of our lives which has influenced how we envisaged the plot and characters to develop. However, I was a bit surprised at the amount of negative comments from so-called fans about TLJ – some of which seemed a bit extreme and over the top.
So could there be some truth behind this research? Is Star Wars™ being dragged into the murky world of political agendas, and ‘Fake News’? Has Putin ordered a cyber attack on Star Wars™? Should Daisy Ridley stay away from Salisbury?? I sincerely hope not……Read the full article by The Guardian here: https://www.theguardian.com/film/2018/oct/02/star-wars-the-last-jedi-rian-johnson-abuse-politically-motivated-russian-trolls
There’s been quite a few recent updates (and rumours!) around the film and TV production plans of Lucasfilm and Disney. According to some articles and reports, many of us are suffering from ‘Star Wars™ Fatigue’ or a Star Wars™ overdose which is having a negative effect on popularity of the whole franchise. (Too much Star Wars™?? Never!!)
The new Star Wars™ Resistance animated series is about to be aired on The Disney Channel, plans to produce a new Star Wars™ Clone Wars animated series have already been announced and, this week, we’ve received more details about the new TV series ‘The Mandalorian’ which will be produced by Lucasfilm.
There’s still very limited information available on this series but we know that it will feature the story of a lone Mandalorian gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
The gunslinger will wear the iconic armor made famous by bounty hunter Boba Fett, as seen in the show’s first production photo.
The show would be set “after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order.”
Personally, I’m really exited with this announcement and the potential around this project. Whilst producing a non-animated TV series is a rare concept for Lucasfilm, I really hope they’ll invest heavily into the production so that we get to see another fascinating and exiting new aspect to the Star Wars™ universe! However, before I get too excited, we’re not expecting the show to be launched until around early 2020 according to executive producer Jon Favreau.See the full article by Polygon below:
With all these new productions in the pipeline, what will it mean for LEGO® Star Wars™? Will LEGO® be releasing new Star Wars™ sets and designs based on all the new productions or will they focus on key aspects? One thing’s for sure: LEGO® will now have plenty of options and potential opportunities to keep their LEGO® Star Wars™ fans happy in the foreseeable future. But for now, we’ll just have to wait and see……..
